A common ailment amongst VJ pumpers is expansive corrosion
busting the water hoppers off . Baker kept a VJ outside at the
factory year round to both test , and prove its ability to resist frost
cracks . And they are frost proof engines . However , after 80 years
of sitting with leaves , dirt and water in the hopper the inside and
outside of the water jacket corrode and expand until they meet in
the middle and you get the haloed looked affair at top right . They
can be brazed, but if you use epoxy putty and only do one seam a  
time , they can be fixed much easier . Just takes a couple days
longer .
